SheLA

SheLA Arts is a summer theater festival that fights for gender equity in the entertainment industry, and is a program of the nonprofit SheNYC Arts. Alongside sister festivals, SheNYC, SheATL, and SheDFW, we focus most of our support on the original creators — playwrights, composers, and producers — to get more women, trans, and non-binary people in these roles that decide which stories get told. Each spring we select plays based off of a nationwide call for submissions, and spend the late spring and summer giving support to the development and production processes.

This year, SheLA is grateful to collaborate with the Digital Development Project (DDP), who are members of Literary Managers & Dramaturgs of The Americas (LMDA), to better our support for the script development process of each selected play. Through this partnership, DDP will pair each playwright with a dramaturg to work together to develop the script with the goal of getting it production-ready.

Participating dramaturgs include: Emma Bilderback, Caili Crow, Suzi Elnaggar, Jihye Kim, Kemi King, Arly Rubens, and Ally Varitek.
