Application

2026 DDP Cycle applications are now closed.

Applicants can choose whether they are applying for a 3-, 6-, or 12-Month Match. Eligibility requirements for each track are available here. A playwright can apply to multiple tracks, but the same script must be used across all applications. A separate application should be completed for each additional track.

Application requirements can be found below, or in the plaintext version here. The application includes uploading the listed documents and answering a brief questionnaire about working style and communication preferences. Additionally, applicants will be asked to indicate who they are interested in Matching with based on the DDP dramaturg profiles. 

We will only be able to consider the first 75 applications: 50 applications for the 3 or 6-Month Match tracks and 25 applications for the 12-Month Fellowship. DDP reserves the right to accept above this number, but once the form is closed, no more applications will be accepted for either category. Applying for multiple tracks will not count against the total number of applications.

Programming details and eligibility are subject to change.

3-Month and 6-Month Tracks Application Packets

Applicants for the 3 and 6-Month tracks will need to prepare two PDF files.

PDF #1 should contain:

  • A one-page cover letter explaining how The Match would benefit your script:
    • What do you hope to gain from working with a new play dramaturg;
    • Any previous experiences with a new play dramaturg/new play development;
    • What you’re looking to develop in your script; and
    • How would you like to work on that with a dramaturg in the allotted time.

PDF #2 should contain:

  • A cover page with the play’s title, your name, and your contact information;
  • A brief synopsis of your play;
  • The play’s complete production history;
    • Including productions, readings, development workshops, etc.
  • A ten-page script sample;
    • The ten pages from the script you are submitting that best represent the project/your writing
    • If desired, this can include one paragraph to contextualize the sample
  • The script you’d like to develop;
    • With page numbers
    • No musicals
    • Less than 150 pages
    • Incomplete scripts are eligible

There will be an option to upload a one-page playwriting resume. This is not required for Developing and Early-Career applicants.

12-Month Writer Fellowship Application Packets

Note: 12-Month applicants may be asked for an interview if they advance to later rounds in the process.

Applicants interested in developing an existing script for the 12-Month Fellowship must prepare three PDF files.

PDF #1 should contain:

  • A one-page cover letter explaining how The Match would benefit your script:
    • What do you hope to gain from working with a new play dramaturg;
    • Any previous experiences with a new play dramaturg/new play development;
    • What you’re looking to develop in your script; and
    • How would you like to work on that with a dramaturg in the allotted time.
